Community Treaty Simulations

What is a Treaty Simulation?

With an Indigenous community or organization partner, our team runs an experiential learning event about their treaty or other agreement. Participants are divided into teams representing the negotiating parties and are tasked with a scenario related to negotiating and/or implementing a treaty or other agreement. Guided by advisors, participants create proposals and negotiate to reach a consensus.

For a visual representation, watch our Treaty Simulation Explainer video, then see what the experience was like for participants and advisors (in their own words!) at our 2023 National Treaty Simulation in Ottawa.

What we provide:

Our team adapts the Treaty Simulation event to the partner’s needs, contributes to the planning process, prepares event materials, and facilitates the event in-person. Costs related to our time, administration, and travel are provided in-kind.

What the partner contributes:

The partner identifies participants, local advisors, and Elders or Knowledge Keepers. When possible, the partner contributes to event costs, such as venue rentals and catering. Please reach out to us with any questions or to schedule a meeting. Let’s talk about how we can partner up to create a Treaty Simulation event to meet your unique goals.
