The Foundation has been facilitating Treaty Simulations in partnership with communities and organizations since 2019. The Treaty Simulation model was developed because treaty experts in our network expressed the need for Indigenous youth to get more involved in their treaties. We worked with experienced advisors to design a program that helps fill the gaps in treaty education as identified by our 2018 report, Treaty Negotiators of the Future.
By leveraging the Foundation’s strong network and unique hands-on learning model, Indigenous communities and organizations are using the Treaty Simulation to facilitate knowledge transfer from Elders, negotiators, and community leaders to the next generation, and to build knowledge, confidence, and connections related to treaty rights and implementation.
